"If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am in the midst of them." Matthew 18:19-20 "NIV
"Take this most seriously. A yes on earth is a yes in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth, and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there." Matthew 18:19-20 MSG
"Again I say to you, that if two believers on earth agree [that is, of one mind in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God], it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My Name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them." AMP
There is power in agreement, especially among believers. At least two people together on one accord, believing for the same thing. These verses follow Jesus' instruction on how to discipline someone who sins against you. Because of this context the verses are often restricted to a response dealing with disciplining those involved in an issue. However, as we expand this context to further address Jesus' response, we understand that He was revealing the truth around the power of agreement. Looking at vs 20, Jesus includes the word "anything" showing this truth as applied to anything asked. Again this principle is truth for anything we ask - if we stand together, in agreement. The amplified version lets us know that what we agree on must be in alignment with His will.
The key is knowing that the power is in who is in the midst. Agreement touches the heart of God. Jesus assured them - "I am there in the midst of them." I am there in the midst of them. I'll be there. I am there among thee. Amos 3:3, "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"
